This is a blog to keep track of my journey to design a web application, may be using Rails.
The web application should be called IndieExchange, or something in that vein, because it is a platform or a community for independent artists. The idea is for artists and those who love to creative connect with folks who appreciate their work and may be an avenue to sell them.
How is that different from Etsy? not sure at this stage, perhaps something in smaller group, something more personal, a personal story, a platform for artists to test out their designs/creations/art work before making it to the bigger stage.
How is that different from ebay, ebay is really a market place like Alibaba, it is too impersonal, too all overall the place.
More importantly this is a community based web application, free to use.
I want to focus on the developing world, or the third world, to encourage entrepreneurial thinking. Now that internet has leveled the playing fields, people should be able to make a difference in their lives if they want to and are motivated to do so.
The ideal users - those with a passion to create, to change the world for the better. Indie Exchange is a forum created for them, adopted by them to make the world a better place.
I am definitely not your typical coder. I am 58 years old and I have this burning desire to learn to code and develop a web or Android application to finish what I was not able to do with Javablue. Once an entrepreneur always an entrepreneur. Is it because I have things in my bucket list that I need to cross off, may be. May be it is something more than that. May be what I keep coming back to is that burning desire to help equalize the world, the first world and the rest, no matter how small my contribution may be. Equalize is the wrong word. It is that desire to help the those who have less and to give everyone a chance to express, to change their world around them in so doing to make the world a better place.
I have considered going back to school, perhaps try to get my medical degree. However, I can't stand the sight of blood, I am not good watching folks suffer, or the thought of pain. Yes, that desire has its root in wanting to help someone in need, as many as I can with what I know how to do.
On the other hand, I am also creative, and time and again I come back to doing something in the creative space. I have been thinking about how best to use the next ten productive years of my life, while I can still make a difference
Both medical and creative routes are on my mind, and the creative one wins right now.
I have had some success learning coding, especially with MIT's Scratch, my first foray into the fun side of coding. Scratch allows me to express myself through art and photography, thoroughly fun, rewarding and rejuvenating.
I came across a Reddit posting on learning Rails in which was mentioned two videos:
and a 16 minute video on
I think it is something I may be able to do so I am very excited
For now this blog serves as my daily/weekly journal entry, for my own consumption, to remind of things to do, goals, problems and solutions, links and so forth. It is not yet meant for the world to see.
